On route to IPv6

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is expected to fully migrate its computing systems by next year from IPv4 to the new IPv6 version of the Internet protocol.

It is on track with the migration that is being shepherded now by the National IPv6 Council, which comes under the purview of the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture.
Another goal of the council is to provide the vision, mission and strategic plan for IPv6 implementation in the rest of the country.
To ensure a smooth transition, the public and private sectors must have adequate numbers of trained personnel, according to the Universiti Sains Malaysia's (USM) National Advanced IPv6 Centre (NAv6).
Prof Dr Sureswaran Ramadass, the director of NAv6, said some 3,000 engineers from around the world have been trained in Malaysia on IPv6. Of this number, 1,000 are Malaysians.
"Malaysia is a pioneer in the IPv6 movement, and the university through NAv6 is playing a key role in the training of IPv6 network engineers worldwide," he said.
The university was appointed by the Government in 2005 to spearhead R&D and human resource training for its IPv6 initiative.
USM's training module has been adopted by international bodies, including the IPv6 Global Forum.
Every piece of equipment connected to the Internet requires an IP address and the number of available addresses under IPv4 has run out, or is very close to running out. IPv6 will solve this problem.
June 8 is World IPv6 Day, and companies in various parts of the world will be test driving their systems and services on IPv6.
"In IPv4, there is a maximum of 4.2 billion IP addresses," Dr Sureswaran said. "With IPv6, there will easily be enough IP addresses for every man, woman and child in the world."
Gathering
Also, the IPv6 2011 regional conference will be held at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel here, from July 19 to July 21.
The conference, themed The Next Generation Internet, includes workshops and is geared towards driving businesses and government agencies to migrate to IPv6.
It will be attended by top-level management personnel and policy-makers.
There will be a keynote by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
President of the IPv6 Forum, Latif Ladid, will also be there to speaking about the big shift from "Telecom Internet" to the two-way Internet based on IPv6.
Other highlights are NAv6 workshops on IPv6 transition and IPv6 security.

‘Make it total recall’

Consumer associations express worry over Taiwan food products

KUALA LUMPUR: The Taiwanese food scare has the public worrying about their safety. They want the government to order a recall of all Taiwanese food products in the wake of the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration’s advisory that more products were carcinogenic.

Consumer associations nationwide also want the government to publish the full list of products that have been tested and ordered off the shelves.

The New Straits Times was deluged with calls yesterday from readers who expressed their fears and worries, claiming that some of the products were still sold in some supermarkets and retail outlets.
They said more notices should be published in newspapers as many people were unaware of the tainted products and the fact they had been recalled.

Stressing that the public needed to know more about the matter, Malaysian Association of Standards Users chief executive officer Ratna Devi Nadarajan said the Health Ministry should do more to ensure the public’s safety.

“This is not the first food scare we’ve had involving imported food products that are tainted. This involves the people’s health.” Ratna, who is also Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (Fomca) deputy secretary-general, said the ministry should devise a method to enable customers to identify food products that were safe for consumption.
“In China and Taiwan, food products are tagged ‘free from DEHP’.

This way, the people are aware that the food is safe to eat.

“How are we to identify the safe products if we don’t even know what the harmful ones are?” she said, adding that PVC (polyvinyl chloride) food packaging and containers from Taiwan should also be tested.
The New Sunday Times reported that the latest products ordered off the shelves were Black Tea by Good Young Co Ltd; Lemon Juice Power A by Kakawa Enterprise Co Ltd; and several products by Triko Foods Co — Fruit Jelly/Assorted (210g, 525g and 1,260g), Bear Fruit Jelly Brown (580g), Bear Fruity Jelly Pink (580g), Fruity Jelly N.C. (9.08kg) and Fruity Jelly Bear (9.08kg).

They have been found to contain di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). DEHP and diisononyl phthalate (DINP) are chemical agents used in plastic manufacturing to give it flexibility and it can be transferred to food during manufacturing, packaging and storage.

Consumers Association of Penang president S.M. Mohamed Idris has advised the public to stop buying Taiwanese food products for the time being.

“Until we are sure they (food products) are safe, it is better to stay away.” When contacted, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said there was no need to recall all Taiwanese food products as this would cause panic among consumers, especially those who had bought the products before the announcement was made.

He assured that the public had nothing to worry as the government was monitoring the situation.

“We should not overreact. The tainted products have been recalled from the market. We are targeting the problem specifically. Not all Taiwan food products are tainted, so to recall them would be unfair.” Liow, however, said the full list of tested and banned food products would be published soon. “We are updating the list that is on the ministry’s website.” Consumers can also call the ministry’s Safety and Food Quality Division at 03-88833652 or 03-88833653 or visit moh.gov.my or fsq.moh.gov.my for more information.
A check at major supermarkets and hypermarkets in the city found that the tainted food products have been removed.

Since Wednesday, 20 types of food products from Taiwan have been recalled.

MALACCA: Five areas covering a total of 338ha here were declared as smoke-free zones beginning June 15, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.
He said the areas are the Malacca world heritage city, Melaka Raya, Melaka International Trade Centre and the Alor Gajah and Jasin town centres.

Anyone caught smoking in any of the zones could be fined the usual RM300 although the maximum compound was RM5,000, he told reporters after opening the World Without Tobacco Day in Bandar Hilir, here yesterday.

However, Liow said any premises or areas in the five zones that were owned by individuals would be exempted from the ban.
He said Malacca being the first state to gazette a large smoke-free area, showed that the state government and the ministry were serious to protect the public from the dangers of cigarette smoke, especially women and children.

Liow said the ministry had gazetted 21 non-smoking areas such as in hospitals, in public transportations, educational institutions, shopping malls and stadiums.

He added that the ministry was also embarking on a campaign against non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart attack and various types of cancer that were caused by smoking.

Liow hoped that the implementation of the smoke-free zone would attract more tourists to Malacca.

He also said almost RM1 million in compounds were issued from January to April for various offences under the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004. A total of RM756,988 had been paid by the offenders

Masih masalah Facebook

INTERNET EXPLORER CANNOT OPEN THE INTERNET SITEhttp://www.facebook.com/home.php
Operation aborted

* Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > IE with no Addons
* IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > klik Restore then click Reset > Apply / OK
* IE > Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > klik reset all zones to default - Apply / OK
* Larikan program DiskCleanup dengan klik Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.
* Klik Start > RUN. Kemudian taipkan perkataan
sfc /scannow. Klik butang OK.
Seterusnya, setkan ia kepada status, not permitted.

  • Buka pelayar web Internet Explorer.

  • Klik pada Tools > Internet Options.

  • Klik pada tab Security.

  • Klik pada ikon Restricted Sites.

  • Klik pada butang Sites.

  • Pada ruangan Add this website to the zone, taipkan perkataan '*.sitemeter.com '

  • Klik pada butang Add. Klik pada Close dan OK.

  • Pada tab Advanced, biarkan kosong kotak tanda sebelah pilihan Show friendly HTTP error messages. Ia berada di bawah tajuk Browsing.

  • Klik butang OK.

    Tauge punca penularan E.coli: Jerman
